Remembrance of History Past: Can't We All Just Get Along?

Mary, overseeing a class working in the library, notices a girl come in through the door, look around, and sit down at a table of other girls working. She starts to talk loudly and giggling, taking the others off-task. Of course, the teacher is not nearby. Mary heads over and asks the girl if she is with the class.

"What class?"

Duh. "This one."

"Uh, no."

"Do you have a pass?"

"Nooo."

"Then I'm sorry, you'll just have to leave."

She rolls her eyes. Stands up, slams her chair under the table. Begins to head toward the door. In a voice far too loud for the library: "That's why we hate all you white people."

Her friends, African-Americans too, let go a stunned collective giggle.
